49-5-5404. Term of employment and duties of assistant principals and career level I assistant principals Exclusion of assistant principals from programs.

(a)  Each local board of education shall define the job description of all persons employed as assistant principals. If the responsibilities required by the local board do not address the competencies, the assistant principal may, as determined by the local board and with the concurrence of the state board of education, be ineligible for participation in the career ladder program.

(b)  (1)  A career level I assistant principal shall work at least a ten-month contract.

     (2)  A career level I assistant principal employed as such by an LEA shall receive a one thousand dollar ($1,000) salary supplement from the state in addition to all other compensation to which the assistant principal may be entitled.

     (3)  A career level I assistant principal who is not recertified as a career level I assistant principal shall retain any other currently valid certificate held by the person at that time, including a career level I, II or III teacher certificate issued under parts 50-53, this part, and part 55 of this chapter.
