50-3-2002. Legislative findings and intent.

(a)  The general assembly finds that the proliferation and variety of hazardous chemicals present in our society may affect the health, safety and welfare of persons living and working in this state.

(b)  The general assembly also finds that many employers in the state have been industry leaders in training and educating their employees concerning hazardous chemicals and that hazardous chemicals programs will be required of manufacturing employers by May 1986, pursuant to the federal occupational safety and health administration's hazard communication standard.

(c)  It is the intention of the general assembly to:

     (1)  Provide access to information regarding hazardous chemicals to enhance the ability of manufacturing and non-manufacturing workers to minimize hazardous exposure to hazardous chemicals;

     (2)  Provide information to emergency personnel to protect the public health, safety and welfare; and

     (3)  Provide information to citizens to enable them to make informed decisions regarding their safety, health and welfare.
