§ 1. Vacancy, absence from state

(a) When there is a vacancy in the offices of governor and lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house of representatives shall act as governor.

(b) When the governor is absent from the state, the lieutenant governor shall act for him, and when both the governor and lieutenant governor are absent from the state, the speaker of the house shall act as governor. (Amended 1965, No. 9, § 1, eff. March 24, 1965.)
