§ 2941. Policy and purpose

It is the policy of the state to ensure equal educational opportunities for all children in Vermont. As applied to children with disabilities, this means that such children are entitled to receive a free appropriate public education. It is further the policy of the state to pay 60 percent of the statewide costs expended by public education to children with disabilities. The purpose of this chapter is to enable the state department of education to ensure the provision of the special educational facilities and instruction which are necessary to meet the needs of children with disabilities. (Amended 1965, No. 152, § 1; 1987, No. 235 (Adj. Sess.), § 2; 1995, No. 157 (Adj. Sess.), § 22; 1997, No. 60, § 29a, eff. July 1, 1998.)
