§ 1-407. Appointments
(a) Any provision of general law conferring the appointing power or other power upon the mayor, the mayor and board of aldermen, the selectmen or other executive heads of a municipality shall be construed as meaning the city manager, and the appointments or power exercised by the city manager, in accordance with such provision, shall be given the same force and effect as if executed by the official named therein, except as herein otherwise provided.
(b) There shall be appointed by the city manager after the annual city election in the manner as hereinafter provided a superintendent of streets, superintendent of waterworks, recreation director, a city engineer, building inspector, an inspector of electric wiring, an inspector of plumbing, a tree warden, three (3) members of the board of health (see board of health). All officers shall hold their offices respectively for one year or until their successors shall be appointed and qualified. The city manager may also appoint such other subordinate officers as may be elected or appointed in towns. Members of the various boards shall be appointed in the same manner, who shall hold office as otherwise herein provided or until their successor shall be appointed and qualified.
