15.2-1543 - Employment of purchasing agent; duties.

§ 15.2-1543. Employment of purchasing agent; duties.

A. Any county may employ a county purchasing agent or designate some officialor employee of the county to perform the duties herein provided, and providecompensation for such service. The person so employed or designated shallserve at the pleasure of the board and shall give bond in such amount asshall be prescribed by the board.

B. The county purchasing agent shall, under the supervision of the board ofsupervisors, purchase or contract for all supplies, materials, equipment andcontractual services required by any department or agency of the county,subject to the provisions set forth in Article 2 (§ 15.2-1233 et seq.) ofChapter 12; shall draw up, subject to the approval of the county board, andenforce standard specifications which shall apply to all supplies, materialsand equipment purchased for the use of the county government; shall havesupervision over all central storerooms now operated or hereafter establishedby the county; and shall transfer to or between county departments andagencies or sell supplies, materials and equipment which are surplus,obsolete, or unused.
