§ 15.2-3819. Election and terms of office of mayor and councilmen after townbecomes city.

At a general election of city officers, to be held on the second Tuesday inMay after a town is declared to be a city, a mayor and city council shall beelected for the city. The terms of office of the mayor and city council shallbegin on July 1 following their election. The mayor shall serve for fouryears. One half of the council shall serve for two years, and the other halffor four years.
