§ 15.2-4523. Acquisition of median strips for transit facilities ininterstate highways.

When the district commission, the Commonwealth Transportation Board and thegoverning bodies of the component governments determine that the timeschedule for construction of any interstate highway, as defined in Article 3(§ 33.1-48 et seq.) of Chapter 1 of Title 33.1, within the district makes itnecessary to acquire median strips for transit facilities in such highwayprior to the adoption of a transportation plan, each county and city withinthe district is authorized to pay to the Commonwealth Transportation Boardsuch sums as may be agreed upon among the district commission and suchcounties and cities to provide the Commonwealth Transportation Board with thenecessary matching funds to acquire the median strips. Any such acquisitionshall be made by and in the name of the Commonwealth Transportation Board.
