§ 15.2-626. Department and board of social services.

The director of social services, who shall be head of the department ofsocial services, shall exercise the powers conferred and perform the dutiesimposed by general law upon the county board of social services, notinconsistent herewith. He shall also perform such other duties as the boardof supervisors imposes upon him.

The county board of social services shall consist of six members; shall haveall the powers, duties, and authority set out in Chapter 3 (§ 63.2-300 etseq.) of Title 63.2 of the Code of Virginia; and shall be appointed by theboard of supervisors, which may fix, within the limits set forth in §63.2-310, the compensation of the members of such board. At all times onemember of the county board of social services shall also be a member of theboard of supervisors. The board of social services may at any time beabolished by the board of supervisors.
