§ 18.2-293. What article does not apply to.

The provisions of this article shall not be applicable to:

(1) The manufacture for, and sale of, machine guns to the armed forces orlaw-enforcement officers of the United States or of any state or of anypolitical subdivision thereof, or the transportation required for thatpurpose; and

(2) Machine guns and automatic arms issued to the national guard of Virginiaby the United States or such arms used by the United States army or navy orin the hands of troops of the national guards of other states or territoriesof the United States passing through Virginia, or such arms as may beprovided for the officers of the State Police or officers of penalinstitutions.
