§ 19.2-7. Rewards for arrest of persons convicted of or charged withoffenses; rewards for conviction of unknown offenders.

The Governor may offer a reward for apprehending and securing any personconvicted of an offense or charged therewith, who shall have escaped fromlawful custody or confinement, or for apprehending and securing any personcharged with an offense, who, there is reason to fear, cannot be arrested inthe common course of proceeding. The Governor may also offer a reward for thedetection and conviction of the person guilty of an offense when such offensehas been committed but the person guilty thereof is unknown.

Any sheriff, deputy sheriff, sergeant, deputy sergeant or any other officermay claim and receive any reward which may be offered for the arrest anddetention of any offender against the criminal laws of this or any otherstate or nation.
