§ 2.2-2820. Purchase of health insurance coverage by part-time stateemployees.
A. Any part-time state employee employed by the Commonwealth and workingtwenty or more hours per week for a period of at least six months may, uponproper application to the Department of Human Resource Management (theDepartment), to purchase health insurance coverage for himself through ahealth insurance plan administered by the Department. This plan for part-timeemployees may differ from the other plans sponsored by the Department forstate employees and shall be exempt from all mandates contained in § 2.2-2818.
B. Applications to purchase health insurance coverage under this sectionshall be made on an application form prescribed by the Department. Inaddition to his application, the applicant shall provide any necessarysupporting documents requested by the Department.
C. Upon payment of the required premiums, coverage shall be effectiveretroactive to the date of the application.
D. The terms, conditions, and costs of health insurance coverage purchasedunder this section shall be subject to administration by the Department. TheDepartment may increase the cost of coverage consistent with itsadministration of the health insurance plans under § 2.2-2818.
E. Health insurance coverage purchased under this section shall automaticallyterminate upon the occurrence of any of the following: (i) the applicant'sdeath, (ii) alternate health insurance coverage being obtained by theapplicant, (iii) the applicant's separation from state service, or (iv) anyapplicable condition outlined in the policies and procedures of theDepartment governing its administration of health insurance plans pursuant to§ 2.2-2818.
