§ 22.1-209.1:1. Noncompetitive grants program for school dropout prevention.
With such funds as are appropriated for this purpose, the Board of Educationshall establish a program for the prevention of school dropout. All schooldivisions shall be eligible to receive such grants under the followingconditions:
1. The local school dropout prevention program includes components whichemphasize prevention, intervention, retrieval, and parental and communityinvolvement;
2. The program includes a component specifically designed to eliminate thepoor academic achievement among disadvantaged students in the schooldivisions; and
3. The program includes a component for oversight and evaluation of programeffectiveness.
The Board of Education shall establish a full-time dropout prevention unitand shall employ such professional and support staff as may be necessary toimplement the grants program, provide coordination for the statewide dropoutprevention program and technical assistance to school divisions and tomonitor such local dropout prevention programs to ensure compliance anduniformity in the interpretation and application of such rules andregulations as may be adopted by the Board.
