§ 28.2-244. Purchase of shellfish or finfish; penalty.

A person shall not purchase shellfish or finfish from any fisherman who isknown by such person to have not registered as a commercial fisherman asrequired by § 28.2-241. Whenever a court finds that a defendant has violatedthe provisions of this section, the court shall assess a civil penalty of$500. All civil penalties assessed pursuant to this section shall be paidinto the Marine Fishing Improvement Fund as established in § 28.2-208.
