§ 31-57. Applicability.

This chapter applies to a transfer within the scope of § 31-38 made afterJuly 1, 1988, if:

1. The transfer purports to have been made under the provisions of formerChapter 5 (§ 31-26 et seq.) of this title (the Virginia Uniform Gifts toMinors Act); or

2. The instrument by which the transfer purports to have been made uses insubstance the designation "as custodian under the Uniform Gifts to MinorsAct" or "as custodian under the Uniform Transfers to Minors Act" of anyother state, and the application of this chapter is necessary to validate thetransfer.
