§ 33.1-157. Abandonment of certain roads and railway crossings by governingbody of county.

When a section of a road not in the secondary system is deemed by thegoverning body of the county, hereinafter in this article referred to asgoverning body, no longer necessary for public use, or an existing crossingby such road of the lines of a railway company, or a crossing by the lines ofa railway company of such road, is deemed by such governing body no longernecessary for public use, the governing body by proceeding as hereinafterprescribed may abandon the section of the road no longer deemed necessary forpublic use, or such crossing by the road of the lines of a railway company,or crossing by the lines of the railway company of the road, as the case maybe.

In considering the abandonment of any section of road under the provisions ofthis section, due consideration shall be given to the historic value, if any,of such road.
