§ 45.1-161.288. Inspection of electric equipment and wiring; checking andtesting methane monitors.

A. Electric equipment and wiring that extend to underground areas shall beinspected by a certified person at least once a week and more often ifnecessary to assure safe operating conditions, and any hazardous conditionfound shall be corrected or the equipment or wiring shall be removed fromservice. This surface inspection is required for trailing cables and circuitbreakers used in conjunction with such equipment and wiring.

B. The Chief may require the operator of a mine to functionally check on adaily basis methane monitors on electrical face equipment to determine thatsuch monitors are de-energizing the electrical face equipment properly. Suchcheck shall be made on each production shift and shall be conducted by theequipment operator in the presence of a foreman, and shall be recorded in theon-shift report of the surface foreman.

C. The Chief may require the operator of a mine to perform weekly calibrationtests on methane monitors on electrical face equipment to determine theaccuracy and operation of such monitors.
