46.2-873.1 - Maximum speed limit on nonsurface treated highways for certain counties.

§ 46.2-873.1. Maximum speed limit on nonsurface treated highways for certaincounties.

The maximum speed limit on nonsurface treated highways, which are roads thatare comprised of an earth-aggregate or aggregate surface (i.e., dirt andgravel) that have not been stabilized with a bituminous or cementitiousmaterial, shall be 35 miles per hour. The maximum speed limit upon suchhighways may be increased or decreased by the Commonwealth TransportationCommissioner or other authority having jurisdiction over highways. However,such increased or decreased maximum speed limit shall be effective only whenindicated by sign on the highway. For such highways upon which maximum speedlimit is not indicated by sign, the maximum speed limit shall be 35 miles perhour.

The provisions of this section shall apply only in the Counties of Albemarle,Clarke, Fauquier, Frederick, Loudoun, Montgomery, Nelson, Rappahannock,Warren, and Wythe.
