§ 51.1-134. Optional membership; creditable service.

Membership in the retirement system for eligible employees in service on thedate of coverage shall be optional. Any employee who elects to join theretirement system within one calendar year after the date of coverage shallbe entitled to credit for service rendered prior to the date of coverage ascertified by his employer for service rendered to the employer, hispredecessor, the Commonwealth, or in any other capacity approved by theemployer and the Board.
