§ 55-252. Lessee of life tenant, etc., to hold to end of year on death oftenant; apportionment of rent.

If there be a tenant for life or other uncertain interest in land which islet to another, upon the termination of such life or other uncertain interestthe lessee may hold the land to the end of the current year of the tenancy,paying rent therefor; the rent, if it be reserved in money, shall beapportioned between the tenant for life or other uncertain interest, or hispersonal representative, and those who succeed to the land. If rent bereserved in kind, it shall be paid to the tenant for life or other uncertaininterest, or his personal representative, and the tenant or his personalrepresentative, as the case may be, shall pay to those who succeed to theland a reasonable rent, in money, from the expiration of the life estate orother uncertain interest to the end of the current year of the tenancy. Therent to be paid to those who succeed to the land shall be a charge inpreference to other claims on the rent received in kind by such tenant or hispersonal representative.
