§ 57-52. Publication of warnings concerning certain charitable and civicorganizations.

If the Commissioner determines that any charitable or civic organization notregistered with his office and not exempt from registration, irrespective ofwhether such organization is subject to the jurisdiction of thisCommonwealth, has solicited or may be soliciting in this Commonwealth,directly or indirectly, by any means including without limitation, bytelephone or telegraph, by direct mail or by advertising in national media,he may, after ten days' written notice mailed to the charitable or civicorganization, cause to be printed in one or more newspapers published in thisCommonwealth a notice in substantially the following form: WARNING-UNREGISTERED CHARITABLE SOLICITATION

The organization named below has solicited contributions from Virginiacitizens for allegedly charitable purposes. It has not registered with orbeen granted the appropriate exempt status by the Commissioner as required bylaw. Contributors are cautioned that their contributions to such organizationmay be used for noncharitable purposes.
