§ 62.1-128. Authority created.

The Virginia Port Authority, hereinafter referred to as the Authority, iscreated as a body corporate and as a political subdivision of theCommonwealth. The Authority is hereby constituted a public instrumentalityexercising public and essential governmental functions, and the exercise bythe Authority of the powers conferred by this chapter shall be deemed andheld to be the performance of an essential governmental function of theCommonwealth.
