§ 162‑50. Penalties.

Upon a finding that the sheriff, personally or through his lawfuldeputies, has willfully failed or neglected to perform any duty imposed by thisChapter, or has made any false return, he shall be subject to damages of notmore than five hundred dollars ($500.00), and such damages recovered shall bepaid to the person aggrieved. Nothing in this section bars an independentaction for damages by the person aggrieved. (1983, c. 670, s. 21.)
